"It’s not going to reshape your concept of the Founding Fathers through inventive use of choreography and hip hop music. It’s not going to give you insight into how a fictional visitor from Kansas to a strange and distant land might be reset from her antagonist’s view. Neither will it make you fall in love with 19th century French students fighting for social change or how a young female singer resists a mysterious masked figure at the Paris Opera.

No. The musical Sweet Potato Queens will do none of that and, yet, it might bring pure joy and understanding for many of those who live lives of quiet desperation and hopelessness."

Alan Smason, WYES-TV

What's the best medicine for feeling beat up by the world?

Get ready for the outrageous, high-powered, Southern rock musical that tells the true story of “Boss Queen” Jill and her closest friends in Mississippi, and how they learn to grab life by the sequins, feathers and tiaras to live their lives out loud, on their own terms.

This new musical is based on the wildly successful Sweet Potato Queens books by New York Times bestselling author Jill Conner Browne, with music by pop icon Melissa Manchester, lyrics by hit country songwriter Sharon Vaughn, and a book by Rupert Holmes (The Mystery of Edwin Drood).

There are currently six thousand registered Sweet Potato Queens chapters in over twenty countries around the world.

The New Line cast includes Talichia Noah (as Jill), Mara Bollini (Floozie Tammy), Ann Hier Brown (Too Much Tammy), Victoria Pines (Flower Tammy), Bethany Barr (Mama), Aarin Kamphoefner (George), Jeffrey M. Wright (Tyler), and Kent Coffel (Daddy). The New Line production will be directed by Scott Miller, with choreography by Tony L. Marr Jr., music direction by Phil Woodmore, scenic design by Rob Lippert, lighting design by Matt Stuckel, and sound design by Ryan Day.

Produced by arrangement with Theatrical Rights Worldwide, New York.
