New Line Theatre Off Line presented another quirky, decidedly adult evening of cabaret in January 2015, featuring three New Line veterans, Jeffrey M. Wright (High Fidelity, Hands on a Hardbody, Next to Normal, Assassins, Grease, I Love My Wife), Zachary Allen Farmer (Bonnie & Clyde, Next to Normal, Bukowsical, Hair, Night of the Living Dead, High Fidelity, Love Kills, Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson), and Todd Schaefer (Hands on a Hardbody, Bat Boy, Evita, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, The Rocky Horror Show, Sunday in the Park with George), directed by Mike Dowdy, with music direction by Paul Cereghino.
The evening included great songs from contemporary and classic shows, including some New Line favorites. The song list includes "Hunt with the Big Dogs" from Hands on a Hardbody, "Nine Percent Chance" from High Fidelity, "Guv'ment" from Big River, "The Origin of Love" from Hedwig and the Angry Inch, "Agony" from Into the Woods, "Fugue for Tinhorns" from Guys and Dolls," "Why Should I Worry" from Disney's Oliver & Company, and lots more.
Back in summer 2012, New Line Theatre, "the Bad Boy of Musical Theatre," created a new side identity called New Line Theatre Off Line, to be a framework for the New Line actors to explore other music and theatre projects, including New Line’s own unique brand of adult cabaret, musical improv, and other kinds of performance opportunities, as well as master classes, workshops, and more, headed up by New Line actor and Associate Artistic Director Mike Dowdy.
