And starting with our reimagined production of Grease in spring 2007, the New Liners have been chronicling the process of making musicals The New Line Way, through online journals called blogs (a contraction of the phrase "web logs"). Actors, interns, designers, our choreographer, our stage manager, and our artistic director write about the joys and difficulties of creating musical theatre, from casting through the first read-through, tech week, opening night, the reviews, audience response, and closing the show. The blogs serve two purposes. First, for our audiences who don't work in the theatre, these blogs provide a rare glimpse inside the incredibly complex process of making musical theatre, hopefully giving readers new insight into the art and craft that goes into the finished show they enjoy on our stage. And second, the blogs create a sense of community among the cast, design team, and staff, reminding us that we're not just "putting on a show," but more than that, making art that touches and engages tens of thousands of people. Keeping these journals is such fun for all of us, and we hope you enjoy reading them...
